The Highest Yielding Bond ETFs

By May 15, 2013

Follow me on:

It's getting harder to find investments with decent yields these days, but it isn't impossible. Below is the list of the 15 highest yielding bond ETFs, ranked in order of their SEC yields as of May 14, 2013, and excluding target maturity ETFs. The yields shown here may differ from others that appear on ETF-screening websites, since most sites use trailing 12-month yield - a different measure. Not surprisingly, the majority of the funds invest in high yield or emerging market corporate bonds. Keep in mind, of course, that there's more to selecting an investment than its yield, as outlined in my article The Top 10 Most Common Mistakes by Bond Investors. The 15 highest-yielding bond ETFs are:

  • AdvisorShares Peritus High Yield ETF (HYLD), 7.73%
  • iShares Emerging Markets High Yield Bond Fund (EMHY), 5.63%
  • Market Vectors Emerging Markets High Yield Bond ETF (HYEM), 5.63%
  • First Trust High Yield Long/Short ETF (HYLS), 5.50%
  • Market Vectors CEF Municipal Income ETF (XMPT), 5.31%
  • Highland/iBoxx Senior Loan ETF (SNLN), 5.26%
  • iShares B-CA Rated Corporate Bond Fund (QLTC), 5.03%
  • Market Vectors International High Yield Bond ETF (IHY), 4.80%
  • Market Vectors Fallen Angel High Yield Bond ETF (ANGL) 4.68%
  • SPDR Barclays High Yield Bond ETF (JNK), 4.63%
  • Market Vectors High Yield Municipal Index ETF (HYD), 4.57%
  • SPDR Barclays Long Term Corporate Bond ETF (LWC), 4.50%
  • Market Vectors Emerging Markets Local Currency Bond ETF (EMLC), 4.47%
  • Market Vectors LatAm Aggregate Bond ETF (BONO), 4.45%
  • Vanguard Long-Term Corporate Bond ETF (VCLT), 4.43%
  • iShares Global High Yield Corporate Bond Fund (GHYG), 4.42%
